It gives a different mood. Suddenly, it’s not summer anymore.

There’s A Trail

The first time I went to Calaguas Island in Camarines Norte I told myself that I would go back. And indeed in less than 2 months, I found myself seated near the boat’s bow getting splashed by the relentless waves. The sun was beaming gloriously and it promised to give us an awesome weekend.

Calaguas makes me happy. We have found a happy beach.

Perfect

I will be back!

Calaguas or Bust!

7/9/08

A minor, but immediate errand came up one static Sunday afternoon. It was that kind of Sunday where you’d just prefer to curl up inside your room and think of nothing. Do nothing.  Interruption.

So I hesitantly picked up the keys to my car, went back to my room get my camera and then hied off to nearby Megamall. My sudden sojourn as expected was uneventful except for the dead rat I encountered and photographed. In the midst of the dead-rat-stench I was still deciding whether the bloody rodent looked better on the left or right side of the frame. After some serious thought, yes serious thought, I figured it looked better on the left, leaving some negative space on the right.

Hit and Run

And with that, I resumed what would be a very bland afternoon.

I’m here in our Baguio office and I’m still in my film state of mind. Once I get this done, I plan to shoot some street stuff at Session Road.

This was shot at the gloomy halls below the Cape Bojeador lighthouse in Ilocos Norte.

Even if Baguio is old and stale, the chillier climate is very much welcome. Although I hear smoky-hot Manila is wet right now.

Tributaries
Tributaries (Canon Rebel 2000 + Kodak BW400CN + 17-40)

I found this awesome tree just outside the entrance of Agua Grande, along the Patapat Viaduct in Ilocos Norte. Most of my friends say that I am hopelessly in love with patterns.

The last time I was in Anawangin, I was in a group comprised of about 30 photo enthusiasts. It was a rabid, mad dash for photos. Now, I was the only one with a DSLR in our foursome. Though there were so many DSLR-wielding weekenders who had the same idea.

This was shot on the way to Anawangin.

The famous river at the back gives a Northern American feel to a very tropical place.

There’s this iconic boat in Anawangin that just begs to be photographed.

And some more.

Photos were taken with a Canon 40D, a 17-40 F4L, a 70-200 F2.8L and a Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6

Market Day

Before going to Brgy. Pundakit, which is the launching pad for Anawangin, we dropped by the town market of San Antonio to buy supplies - pork, calamansi, cooking oil, Emperador, soda, some mangoes.

Sibuyas at Bawang

Some other weekenders were also loitering around the market.

A market really says a lot about a town’s character. Just observing random banter, conversations and the occasional hollering (palengkera style) one will be able to extract bits of a story. These small local moments make trips very memorable.

this weekend's haul: anawangin

Aha! I’ll be damned if I don’t go out this weekend. It’s Anawangin again, but this time, it’ll be a road trip and I have to bring gear. Presenting, my stuff!

  3. Tupperware-kinda-thing / My Mess Kit + Spork (inside)
  4. Butane - Let’s keep the fire burning yeah!

I end this post with a thought:
Why pack light when I can put up a fight!

Now let’s all pray for good weather!
Have a great weekend everyone!
