A country must establish and defend its sovereignty. The most basic way to do this is to defend and secure its borders. This means the country gets to decide who enters but we are not securing our borders right now.
My wife is a U.S. citizen of Thai ancestry. My in-laws are naturalized citizens to this country who had to wait in line to get their citizenship. They came to America because they wanted a better life for themselves and their children. Only here can you start a business, make money, and keep most of it (although that is changing with high taxes.). They learned English and raised their daughters to love America but to also love their own Thai roots. English was the main language in their household, but Thai was also taught as well.
As such, my wife learned Thai at an early age. Talking to my wife on the phone, you’d never guess she was Asian (she doesn’t have an accent). But when Thai people talk to her on the phone they’d never guess she wasn’t from Thailand (she also doesn’t have an anglo accent in Thai). So I know you understand the negative impact of illegal immigration.
One solution is to make English the official language. We need something to tie us together. Right now, hispanic communities, asian communities, and others can splinter off and form their own communities of people who speak their native language but do not bother to learn English in order to interact with the rest of the population. This self-imposed apartheid is counterproductive.
The second thing is that we need to end the “anchor babies”. Now – how does one do this without eliminating automatic citizenship by birth for those kids born to an American citizen? Its very simple. The 14th Amendment states: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.” Now the Supreme Court has (erroneously) ruled in the past that this means children of illegal aliens are citizens here.
This is incorrect. When an illegal alien is detained for immigration violation, as long as he/she has not committed any other crime they are deported to their home country. Why? Because they are not U.S. citizens. Ask DA’s and police officers about this and they will tell you that the reason why we do an endless cycle of deport, catch again,deport with the same people is that their home countries cry bloody murder if we do anything else to them. So they aren’t really subject to our jurisdiction in as much as we can do too much to them unless they commit another crime (other than illegal entry into the country).
The second example are children born to diplomats of another country who are here at their country’s embassy with the U.S. For example, say the wife of the ambassador of Italy gives birth in Virginia. The child is not automatically granted U.S. citizenship because the parents are not citizens of this country as their parent is doing diplomatic work for their home country here in America. The same thing can be done with the children of illegals. If your parents are here legally, then if you are born here, you are granted citizenship. If not, then you are not. This will have a positive effect on the flow of people through our border.
